My Top 4 Favorite Dance Tools for At-Home Training

ree

I’ve spent years working with dancers and helping them train safely and effectively—inside and outside the studio. And there are a few simple tools I always come back to because they really work. They’re great for building strength, improving flexibility, and working on balance, and they’re super versatile.

In the coming weeks I will be linking videos to our youtube page with lots of different exercises to help support dancers. These are my favorite tools to get started!

Here are my top 4 go-to's for at-home dance training:

1. Yoga Block

This one’s a classic for a reason. Yoga blocks are amazing for improving alignment, supporting stretches, and helping with balance. Whether you're working on turnout, posture, or just trying to get deeper into a stretch, this block can give you the support (or challenge!) you need. Here are some of my favorites!

2. Open Elastic Training Bands

These long bands are super useful for all kinds of resistance training. You can use them for feet and ankle work, arm strength, or turnout exercises. They're also easy to adjust depending on how much resistance you want, so they work for dancers at any level.

3. Closed Elastic Training Bands (Mini Bands)

These little loop bands might look basic, but they’re powerful. They're great for targeting glutes, hips, and inner thighs as well as some good arm exercises—perfect for stability, turnout strength, and prepping for jumps. I often recommend these to dancers for warm-ups or quick strength sessions at home. They are also super handy to pack in a bag and have on a trip if you want to keep up some training on your off time.

4. Large Workout Ball (Stability Ball)

A total favorite! The big stability ball is fantastic for core work, balance, and stretching. It helps improve posture and body awareness and makes even simple exercises more challenging in the best way. Plus, it’s fun to use and adds some variety to your training. Just make sure to buy the one recommended for your height!

Why I Love These Tools

They’re affordable, easy to store, and you can do so much with them. I’ve seen how helpful they are for dancers training at home, whether it’s during break, between classes, or when you’re recovering from an injury. If you’re looking to build a solid at-home training kit, these four tools are a great place to start. Stay tuned for upcoming blogs and youtube videos to get started at home!
